Dear Milt,

Thank you for contacting me. I am always glad to hear form you.

I appreciate hearing your concerns regarding the reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs. The House is currently considering a reworking of the conference report.

I was very disappointed that conference leaders moved to expand the contracting out of air traffic control employees, particularly with regards to the Contract Tower Program. The air traffic control systems when they passed their respective versions of the legislation. However, conference leaders took the reverse action and allowed for privatization.

Similar action occurred with regards to requiring matching funds for essential air services. I have considerable concerns about conferees directly reversing actions taken in both houses. Many of my colleagues have similar views. I believe that it will be difficult to move FAA reauthorization until many of these important issues are reconsidered.

Again, thanks for sharing your views with me. Please don't hesitate to let me know how you feel on any issue that concerns you.

Sincerely,

Tom Harkin
United States Senator
