Dear Milton,

Thank you for your letter concerning Transformation in the Department of Defense (DOD).

I believe that the United States Military is the strongest and most elite fighting force in the world, and in the interest of national security I will fight to maintain our military prowess. I also recognize that our homeland workforce plays an important role not only in the building and maintenance of our military, but also in the strengthening of our economy.

The DOD has requested $24.3 billion for transformation purposes in Fiscal Year (FY) 2004. There are six goals which the Quadrennial Defense Review has identified for military  transformation to accomplish with these funds. These goals include protecting the U.S. homeland and overseas forces, denying our enemies sanctuary, protecting our information networks, and advancing our technology which gives our troops vital knowledge in combat situations. I believe the accomplishment of these goals is important to maintaining an effective military.

While I do not sit on the Armed Services Committee, I will pay close attention to any legislation involving DOD Transformation that comes up for debate on the House floor.

Thank you again for expressing your views on this issue, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any further issue in the future.

Sincerely,

Steve King
Member of Congress
