Dear Milt:

Thank you for contacting me. I am always glad to hear from you.

I appreciate knowing of your support for the rights of our workers. Our workers are one of our nation's most precious resources, and it is our obligation to ensure that they have decent wages and a safe environment in which to work.

As a nation we have a choice, continue down the path of lower wages and lower productivity, or take the option pursued by our major economic competitors, of high wages, high skills, and high productivity. If we want to pursue this path, we must do it with a workforce that is able, well compensated and does not have to fear being killed or injured due to unsafe and hazardous working conditions.

Labor that is well motivated and well trained has a stake in its jobs. We know that because labor has been at the forefront of every battle to provide dignity and opportunity to all working Americans. You can be sure I will continue to support legislation that is in the best interest of America's workers.

Again, thanks for sharing your views with me. Please don't hesitate to let me know how you feel on any issue that concerns you.

Sincerely,

Tom Harkin
United States Senator
