St. Paul Technician Helps Rescue Elderly Woman![]() June 10, 2003 - David Primeau, an IAM Local 737 mechanic at Midway Chevrolet in St. Paul, was working Friday morning when he heard a van crash into a 69 year old woman crossing University Avenue. He immediately jumped into action trying to free the pinned woman. Describing his split second decision Primeau said, “I turned my head to the left and saw the van sitting there with a head sticking out from underneath it. I turned tail and ran as fast as I could to get a jack.” The jack is extremely heavy and hard to handle. Primeau continued, “I scrambled back and grabbed the jack and was running full force. The tile floor was wet and I was sliding all over.” Primeau bolted onto the street shoving the jack under the vehicle. “I just started going ape jacking it up,” Primeau said. He had the vehicle clear of the woman in seconds and another shop employee covered the woman with his coat to shelter her from the rain. Police and paramedics arrived shortly afterward carefully moving the woman from under the van. The woman suffered a broken arm, broken pelvis and fractured skull. However, she is listed in stable condition. __________________________________________________ Michael D.
