UNION MEMBERS FIGHT RIGHT TO WORK (FOR
LESS) MEASURE |
|
Oklahoma's working families are in a fight for their livelihoods. Anti-union forces in their legislature put through a ballot measure for this September that could make Oklahoma a Right-to-Work (for less) state. Union members are fighting back. They launched a public education campaign with the largest labor rally in state history. "We're telling the truth about 'right to work,' " said Local 898 Directing Business Representative Jerry McCune, Enid, OK. "It will mean lower wages for everyone and do nothing for working families." IAM Local 2909 members at the Southwest Airlines Reservations Center in Oklahoma City are running phone banks and a voter registration drive. "My friend works on a poultry farm in Arkansas, a right to work (for less) state. She works 60 hours a week without overtime," said phone bank captain Kathy Barrett. "She can't quit because she has a family to support. I don't want that to happen in Oklahoma." |
