'OPPORTUNISTIC' PRICE HIKE--Blue Cross/Blue Shield is raising health insurance premiums by 17 percent for federal workers, a move AFGE President Bobby Harnage brands "opportunistic," especially as the government begins to harness all its available resources for a protracted military conflict. Currently, only the Office of Personnel Management negotiates with insurance companies for federal health insurance benefits. "The need for federal employees to have a seat at the table for annual negotiations between the Office of Personnel Management and the insurance companies has never been clearer," Harnage said.
