R. THOMAS BUFFENBARGER,
13TH INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT,
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MACHINISTS AND AEROSPACE WORKERS

IF YOU WANT TO KEEP COPIES OF ANY NEWS FROM THE I.P.  IT WOULD BE WISE TO PRINT OR SAVE THEM.

Dear Communicator:
As the district or local lodge Communicator, you are part of a growing
network of IAM members who distribute vital information to the membership. Right now, there are 702 Communicators and that number continues to grow.

The Communicator network covers almost 80 percent of the IAM membership. But that's not full compliance with the IAM Constitution. So, there is a push on to have a Communicator and Educator appointed in every district and local lodge in our union.

Why are these positions so important? Well, in this fast moving world of ours, information is power. And information speedily and accurately distributed is power squared.

By posting the Have You Heard?'s on union bulletin boards, distributing hard copies to officers of your local and emailing them to your broadcast email list -- the three tasks each Communicator has been assigned by the IAM, you increase the power of your union. When everyone does what's asked of them, we can reach literally thousands of IAM members in a matter of hours. Now that's power.

I am sure your district and local president has given you other tasks.

That's to be expected. They, too, see you as a critical link in communicating with members. I and the other members of the Executive Council deeply appreciate your commitment of time and effort. So, for all you do, I just wanted to say THANKS!

Tom Buffenbarger
IAM International President
