            Emphasis is on Education, Healthcare and Good Jobs.

 

            Jan Laue, Executive Vice-President of Iowa Federation of Labor

          “HAD ENOUGH” in regards to the current State Legislature on Education, the Stanley

            Amendment and the assault on workers (OSHA/Worker Compensation/Wages – i.e. OT)

            Solution - elect the right people to office via voter registration, newsletters, leaflets and

            Labor walks.

 

            Ken Sagar, Secretary-Treasurer of Iowa Federation of Labor

          Political involvement (post cards, electronic mail, etc.)

            Educate on the choices (e.g. Zirkelbach vs. his opponent on the far right)

 

            Tom Larkin, from Senator Harkin’s Office

          Flex Time bill coming around again (another attack on overtime)

                        Who Decides:

1)      If OT Pay or Comp Time? Employee – good / Employer – bad.

2)      When can it be taken? Employee – good / Employer – bad.

3)      When will payment be given? Now – good / Later – bad.

New OT Rules go into effect on August 23, 2004

Veteran Treatment at V.A. hospitals

1)      Takes 6 months to get prescription drugs.

2)      Loss of healthcare after 18 months of activation

1)      Issuing a senatewide 60-day blackout.

FINANCIAL OFFICERS’ SEMINAR REPORT

          Conducted by Steve Dunn, Grand Lodge Auditor

 

TWO NEW PROGRAMS

          Virtual Lodge Membership

            Virtual Financial Officer

 

FULL SERVICE DISTRICTS - Coming to a District near you soon!

            1) Shops will send monthly dues checkoff to districts who will extract Grand Lodge and

            2) District Lodge per capita taxes from the check and send the remainder to the Local

            Lodge.

3) Will relieve many Locals from some of the more time consuming reports.

            4) Should pass at the Grand Lodge Convention in September.
